Beech Hill Studios came first.. but designer Maryann Ewing started
out designing and fabricating clothes much sooner at age 13. She was influenced by
designer Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Perry Ellis and created many stunning designs. Instead of going on as a fashion designer she decided to complete a B.S. in Environmental Design at the University of California at Davis. To further her understanding of design Ms. Ewing spent a semester abroad in Copenhagen Denmark studying Interior Design .
While in college Ms. Ewing studied textiles, furniture design, architecture and photography. She went on to have a robust career in interior design. Her client list includes, QAD Inc., Patagonia, Hewlett Packard, Stanford University,
The Lodge at Pebble Beach, and many private residences in Montecito CA,
Santa Barbara CA, Ojai CA, Mammoth Lakes CA, Lafayette CA, and Charleston, South Carolina.
In 1992 Ms. Ewing decided that there was a need for the use of earth friendly products.
She found Victoria Schomer and Interior Concerns and started to use the specifications system that Ms. Schomer had developed for earth friendly building products.
With the growth of the Green movement, product from Urban Forestry has become available. Ms. Ewing recently completed an elegant kitchen remodel using urban harvested maple. The kitchen is a beautiful example of Green design.
